The reason they gave was not chatbots. It was agents. Amodei's essay, "We Must Pace the Frontier," argued that swarms of autonomous agents now pose a risk measured in months rather than decades.

Why agents, specifically, changed the argument

So treat the weekend as a signal about where the guardrails are going, not as a change in what your agent can do tomorrow. The practical read: the industry just told you that unattended, unlogged, all-access agents are the thing to avoid. If you already run one, that's your to-do list. If you're starting, begin with scoped access and approvals on and widen only as the log proves it's earning the room.
